The Waters Alliance 2695 Separation Module with Waters 2996 Photodiode Array Detector and Waters Micromass ZQ Detector (vacuum pump included) is designed for handling in-vitro diagnostic testing to analyze a variety of compounds, including diagnostic indicators and therapeutically monitored compounds.  The 2695 Separations Module expands the traditional concept of an HPLC method to include all parameters that can influence a chromatographic separation. This approach takes a number of parameters such as pressure limits and syringe draw rates that are typically included in an instrument configuration and makes them part of the separation method. The values of these parameters can be programed to change from method to method without having to set up the instrument before each run.

The Micromass ZQ Detector is a quadrupole mass analyzer that can determine the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) of diverse analytes. An HPLC system, or syringe pump, delivers liquid sample to the instrument's analyzer source where sample molecules are ionized through either electrospray (ESI) or atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI). In ESI mode, sample molecules ionize in the solution before reaching the source. On entering the evacuated source, the molecules begin a desolvation process. In APCI mode, an electrical discharge inside the source ionizes the sample molecules which then undergo desolvation. The ions ultimately reach the quadrupole, which separates them according to their mass-to-charge ratios. A photomultiplier then detects the mass-separated ions, amplifies their signals, and sends the mass information to the data system.
