The Amersham Pharmacia / GE AKTA Pilot is a dedicated automated liquid chromatography (LC) system designed to carry out development, scale-up, and production processes. This bio-compatible, hygienic and sterilizable system can purify products in milligrams of up to tens of grams. As the gold standard in the industry, the AKTA Pilot LC system meets all good laboratory practice (GLP) and current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) guidelines which are required in Phase I-III of drug development and final-scale production.
The AKTA Pilot is a complete system which contains all fluid handling components necessary to perform smooth delivery and mixing, sample application as well as in-line monitoring.
Pre-programmed method templates and optimized system configurations minimize preparation time by allowing rapid media screening, method scouting and optimization as well as scale up experiments. Dedicated method templates are supplied for the most common scouting procedures including automatic media screening and automatic eluent pH scouting for ion exchange chromatography. Convenient sample application and column packing is also possible by regulating the flow rate, while pressure can also be monitored through four points.
The UNICORN software displays the monitoring of conductivity, UV and pH. Additional screens can be connected to the system for special purposes. The AKTA Pilot is equipped with sanitary sensors allowing continuous in-line measurement of pH, conductivity and UV absorbance. These detectors deliver accurate and reliable monitoring through self-test and self-calibration. The flow cells are placed close together and are easily accessible from the front panel to facilitate maintenance. As a result, band broadening and time delay between detectors are lessened.
